Sunrises

Sunrise is my favourite part of the day, I prefer the quiet and solitude as less people are active at this time then at sunset. While the colours of sunrise and sunset are similar but subtly different, sunrise benefits from the overnight conditions, maybe mist and fog, dew, overnight frost and fresh crisp snowfall and less haze.

2020 started with a lot of floods, nearly 3 weeks of high water level that affected homes and business. But floods are part of York's history, part of why York is where it is and a reminder that nature is everyones master.

This image is taken from Ouse Bridge on the Queens Staith side looking over to the famous Kings Arms in which a plaque can be found that shows the levels of floods.

A freezing cold misty winters morning at Strensall Common, this stand of Silver Birch stood to attention as the sky erupted with beautiful lilacs and purples.
After an early walk up to the summit with no chance of a sunrise, I decided to head back for breakfast. I suddenly felt the warmth of the sun on my neck as the sun broke through a gap in the clouds and spun around and fumbled with my phone to capture the view before me. Golden side light illuminated Cat Bells, accentuating the contours of her flanks in full autumnal plumage. By the time I got the big cam out the light was gone.

Autumnal early morning light catches the clouds over the Helvellyn range at Castlerigg Stone Circle in the Lake District. The central cloud has the look of a phoenix alight in the fire colours of the morning sky.
Autumnal dawn light explodes in the sky in a blanket of fire over the Helvellyn range at Castlerigg Stone Circle in the Lake District. Its easy to wonder what Neolithic man must have thought at the sight of such wonders.
The iconic lone tree at Buttermere with the sun rising in the gap of Honister pass with Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks in the distance.

Malham Lone Tree just before sunrise. Despite the cloud on the horizon blocking the majority of the direct sunlight, I loved the colour of the sky and subtle blues and magenta light that accentuates the limestone pavement around it.
