Locations

The following collections cover my favourite locations, from close at home to further afield.

After an early walk up to the summit with no chance of a sunrise, I decided to head back for breakfast. I suddenly felt the warmth of the sun on my neck as the sun broke through a gap in the clouds and spun around and fumbled with my phone to capture the view before me. Golden side light illuminated Cat Bells, accentuating the contours of her flanks in full autumnal plumage. By the time I got the big cam out the light was gone.

Malham Lone Tree just before sunrise. Despite the cloud on the horizon blocking the majority of the direct sunlight, I loved the colour of the sky and subtle blues and magenta light that accentuates the limestone pavement around it.

Moody sunset at Saltwick Bay near Whitby, with the wreck of Admiral Van Tromp in the foreground, Black Nab in the middle ground on the right and in the distant, in the glow of the setting sun, Saltwick Nab.

The Yorkshire Wolds are not a National Park nor even an Area of Outstanding National Beauty, but the V-cut valleys and S bends are beautiful all times of the year, and Frendal Dale is no exception

Seasons

I love to visit locations across the different seasons as the changing climate provides such variations.

A chance discovery of a thick carpet of poppies on a stormy summers evening as the sun dropped through a gap to backlight the petals in a rich red.

I passed through a stretch of denser wood and was looking for a splash of colour that was down at eye level. I noticed this sapling quite delicately growing in a small clearing allowing a little bit of light down through the canopy to warm it up and make it stand out against the foggy cool tones in the background.

Early morning in August as the sun comes round behind the waterfall, the sunlight punched through the undergrowth to illuminate the shallow gorge that starts at Janets Foss and runs down to Malham.
